On the advice of TI, I started doing morning pages yesterday. To briefly explain, it's 3 handwritten journal pages about whatever. Yesterday's writing started slowly, with a lot of "I don't know what to write about"s. But eventually I was flowing, and I finished 3 pages without realizing it. And I came up with an essay idea!
For the rest of the day yesterday, I was thinking about what I'd write in today's morning pages. I woke up earlier than usual and was so excited to get to my journal. And this is someone who hates writing longhand. I'm sloppy, and I can't write as fast as my thoughts come. But I didn't mind it, and it was kind of nice to get away from my computer for a change. Today, I wrote 4 pages because I didn't want to stop!
Next week, I'm going to try a new schedule at work: I'll come in at 9:30 and leave at 5:30/6. That way I can have time to do morning pages, do a writing exercise, and walk Chloe. I hope it works!

Wow Bug! That's great that the morning pages have started working for you so immediately. You'll find them positively transforming! Congratulations. You sound restored.
Good for you! I'm just reading through "The Artist's Way" right now. I haven't started the morning pages yet - still getting used to getting the kids off in the mornings for school again, but I'm thinking it would be a great exercise to get the writing juices flowing again.
Thanks TI! Kim G., I just ordered the book from my inter-library loan (my favorite thing!). Are you enjoying it?
Bug, you are nothing if not
Whoops- darn cat. I was going to say prolific, but feel free to fill in the blank. I admire how much you do and share with us.
Thanks Repeater! That's such a compliment. :) And I hate when my cat walks on the keyboard!
