Back to life...back to reality

So, on my bus to work this morning, I felt a dread settle in. I tried to think of what it could be about--I like my job enough, I was psyched to see my friends at work again. But why, oh why, can't I just stay home and write full time? (Besides that pesky mortgage, I mean.) It's such a pleasant existence, me and my characters drinking coffee between walks with my dog. What a life it would be! Damn mortgage. Best Blogger Tips

Hang in there, Bug.

I know this may be a radical idea, but if you really want to write full-time, consider getting rid of the mortgage (yeah, yeah, I know--easier said than done...I moved back home five years ago when I started writing full-time...and never expected I'd STILL be there...oh, what we do for our art!)

Another option...consider freelancing...medical writers are in BIG DEMAND. You could do enough gigs to help pay for the mortgage but still have time to do the creative stuff...

I started my own copywriting business back in 2003, and I probably *could* get my own place if I devoted more time to clients...right now, I'm seeing where the teaching leads me...the copywriting is still an option in the future while I work on the great American Novel.

Don't give up--if you want to write more, there are ways to make it happen...we can brainstorm some more ideas off-line over sangria! :)

Thanks FC! Brainstorming + sangria= great idea! I like the way you think. I really do hope to make freelancing/teaching my main mode of income some day in the not so distant future... But for now with school bills and all (and my work is paying for part of school), it's probably not the best time. But let's drink and chat anyway!

You can find time to write. If I can do it, you can do it.

AND, do as much writing now before you have children. Kids are wonderful, but they can suck the life right out of you.

Haha Jan. I love your line about sucking the life out of you. :)
