I can't even tell you how happy I am to be in my MFA program. I loved my residency SOOO much, and now I'm loving having a deadline to get my work done. And all this obsessing about writing has certainly quieted down some of the craziness I had been feeling earlier in June (worries, stress, etc.). I guess my obsessive personality has found a new outlet.
Last night, I basically finished the first draft of my short story! I have it all written out in a very basic, get-to-the-story way. Now I need to revise, revise, revise.

Hey, Bug! CONGRATS!!!! That's awesome!!!
That's got to be a big weight off of your shoulders. Good for you.
Now, you'll have to tell us about your revision process, I'm looking for inspiration.
Thanks, FC! It definitely gives new meaning to the phrase "shitty first draft," but it's something. And good idea, Jan! I will think of posts to do with revision... (As if you need inspiration! You write so much and so well! It amazes me, esp. considering your other obligations)
Bug, that's great! Congratulations. And I want to share that my philosophy manuscript went out for review today! What a relief to have that off my desk. TI
Hey, TI--Congrats on getting the philosophy manuscript done...hope your other writing is going well! :)
Yea, TI! You ROCK! How many days til your motorcylcing vacation??
Congratulations!! What an accomplishment! Use that energy to carry you into the revision.
Whoops--that anonymous post was from me.

I must admit I'm a little jealous of the completion of a draft. I had a good burst of getting work done when I got home but am hitting a bit of a rut.
Hi Katie,
I hear you about hitting a rut! Honestly, the only thing that is keeping me going is the fact that I am so f'n busy with work and various other things that I don't have time for a rut. For me, the pressure is very motivating. (That doesn't mean my work is any good though!)
And Erin, thank you!
Hi Bug,
Unfortunately, deadlines don't really help me inspiration-wise. But after back-and-forthing with FatCharlatan in the comments, I wrote a goofy little verse (also in the comments) that will probably lead to something I'll use and work on more. I guess snarking with friends is just as good a cure for writer's rut as anything.
