...only not as exciting.
Taking advice from those of you who read my crazy list of things to do, I'm going to give myself some time off tomorrow and go see a movie. I love seeing movies by myself in the middle of the day. The problem? I can't decide what to see! Help me decide. Vote in the comments section.
Your (my) choices:
Running with Scissors (which I haven't read)
Little Children (which I have)
Marie Antoinette

I would go see running with scissors based on the reviews I've read...
but I have never gone to see a movie by myself in the middle of the day. Really. Something I need to try sometime.
I just saw The Queen tonight and it was excellent. But yes, I've heard good things about Running with Scissors as well. Have fun!
Jim, you are really missing out! Go for it!
Marie Antoinette is a must. Go for it.
All three good choices. Make it a special dat and see all three...or at least running with scissors and Marie A.
:)
Little Children received (I think)great reviews across the board (Oscar talk for Winslet). I read Running with Scissors, but the reviews for the movie have been mixed.
Consider Borat (again, great reviews across the board), and the Queen, as TI said. I also saw Little Miss Sunshine a few weeks ago, and LOVED it. Don't know if it's still around...
Have fun! I'm glad you're taking some much-deserved time for yourself. I'm still slogging through my submission (my advisor gave me an extra week, since we've been off with out timing for the last two submissions).
Peace,
FC
I love doing the same thing, CJ - have fun!
I've heard that the movie (Scissors) does not come close to living up to the book, which was pretty good. Unlike most of the other comments, I have not read good thngs about it.
I really have no interest in Marie or Little Children, but you can NEVER go wrong with Kate Winslet...
I have read and watched running with scissors, and the book is much better than the movie. But the movie has some funny parts. Either way I don't think you can go wrong.
On my list: The Queen (playing fewer theaters - may be harder to find) and Stranger than Fiction (with Emma Thompson and Will Farrel - looks so funny!)
Little Miss Sunshine if you can find it and haven't seen it! One of my all time favorites.
Have a great day off!
What movie did you see?
I may go today and I'm thinking about Stranger Than Fiction, the Last King of Scotland, or The Queen.
Royalty must me on my mind today.
Sorry, I have no idea- sort of out of the loop on advertisements, etc. I would love to hear what you saw, though, then I'll be properly informed.
thanks everyone! I ended up seeing Marie Antoinette, which was really good. They did a good job of making M both sympathetic and ridiculous. It was also interesting to think about how awkward it must have been to be shipped off to another country to marry someone. I def recommend it--and going to the movies alone!
I still hate the blogger beta. That was my anon comment.
Glad you had fun at the movies.
