Sunday Scribblings: Kitchen

It's been a while since I scribbled. But I'm glad to be back just in time for the anniversary! Congrats, Laini and and Meg. This blog is a wonderful addition to the writing community!

Kitchen
My
kitchen is often a mess. Dishes in the sink, spilled stuff on the
stove, mud on the floor from my dog's paws. But there is beauty behind
the mess, and I've been trying to focus on that. My husband cooks a lot
(and is not a good "clean as you go" chef; he usually leaves a trail of
dirty dishes, counters, etc. behind him). I try to look at the
splatteredstovetop as a symbol of the meals we've shared, and of his
nurturing nature. I try not to focus on the fact that it also
symbolizes our being too busy after dinner to give the kitchen a good
scrub down.

(I'm also trying to devote 2 hours on the weekend
to cleaning so at least everything is neat for a short time. Right now
we just clean when we find the time, which isn't nearly often enough.)

Does your cat ever jump into the sink with muddy paws like mine?

Last week my dog got a container of baby powder, chewed it open, when I got home from work, it was EVERYWHERE. The cats had walked in it, so the counters and table were also covered with power.
It smell fresh as a daisy though.
Glad to read your scribble...My husband will be glad to know that he is not the only one that pairs amazing cooking with amazing messes!

Haha, our kitchen also has that "lived in" look. Not Martha-Stewart-worthy but it's home!

I hear ya on the trying to find 2 hours during the weekend to clean...then I get mad because weekends are my downtime!!

I love the idea of the beauty behind the mess.

I can read love in this post. That is any day more important than cleaning. Just give him time. He will learn to clean too.

Your story is so familiar. My husband is the chef and a very messy one at that. He literally does not notice the mess he leaves behind. It's exasperating, until I eat his delicious dinners and have to forgive him. :)

I think you have to forgive the cook their messes~especially if the food is good!

Thanks for sharing this glimpse of your kitchen life!

Thanks for giving me the "vision behind the mess" idea...and good to see you scribbling again. :)

Your husband sounds wonderful.

That's a really nice post, bug. Good to look at the up side of the mess. You're busy enough. Don't get down on yourself for the couple of things you let slide.

Great to see the positive side of the mess. They say that the best cooks make the biggest messes!

"My kitchen is often a mess. Dishes in the sink, spilled stuff on the

I think you've definitely got the right attitude towards a kitchen.

Sometimes I clean up as I go, but more often I clean up before I go to bed. And sometimes...

Congrats on your thinking blog award, and my photo is finally up on my post, just in case you've been holding your breath. (Sheesh.)

Your are right about the beauty and love behind the mess. Now that it is just me and my husband I sometimes miss "the mess" that represented the kids being home (and guess what mom"? I brought a friend too!)It took me months to figure out how to shop just for two! You can feel the love you have for your husband and your life together.
