True beauty

There's probably not a person in the modern world who doesn't have moments of self-fill in negative feeling here: contempt, pity, hatred at the way they look. Of course a lot of these feelings come about because we are insanely saturation with images of models and movie stars. Dove has a great video on their web site that shows what it takes to make a model look like she does. I hope we can all keep it in mind the next time we look in the mirror. Best Blogger Tips

Thank you for putting a link to that film, bug. I love their campaign. I love it so much I'm going to go buy some Dove even though I don't care for their products. It'll be better than the nasty hotel soap. I think ti should get involved in this campaign somehow, being a womens study advocate (not to mention model-like)

That is a great film. I did have some reservations about Dove's campaign initially because it carried a double message -- they had "real" women as models, but it was always for creams that could make you look better. The message was something like: if we can fix *these* bodies, we can fix anything. But overall, as far as these things go, the message is better than the norm. And I do like the idea of a campaign to help girls achieve self-esteem. Thanks for the link. I'll use it when I do the fashion and beauty section in my WS class next semester.

I and my son & friend watched this with our mouths open in absolute amazement - so all that is strived for is nothing but a false beauty anyway.

Chief biscuit, it's so great you show your son these kinds of things. I'm sure he'll be a very enlightened man!

TI, I totally agree. I also didn't like how their "real" overweight women were just slightly plumper (if that) than most of the real women I know.

I'm all for the Dove campaign--even though the women aren't as 'real' as they could be (ie, a bit heavier/not as cute) it's a start.

Ya gotta start somewhere...

I really like that film. I tried to show it to my girls in class today, but my work computer doesn't have Flash, and I can't install it. Wah. I really want to show it to them! Talk about a dose of reality.
