I'm having trouble getting going with my new story, which I don't think is normally my problem. What do others do when they get stuck early on? Advice would be most welcome.
Morning writing. I make working on the story for 45-60 minutes the very first thing I do when I get out of bed and force myself to stay with it, moving forward, no matter how badly it might be going. In fact, I'm doing this right now, every morning this week. At least I have something new at the end of each session even if it's shit.
Making notes can be helpful, or turning the story over and over in your head without putting anything down on paper can move you forward. I'm also a big fan of looking at it from another character's perspective, or identifying the three biggest challenges this character will face in the piece (if I know them).
Thanks for all the good advice. I think I'll start with the forced writing forward, as that has worked for me in the past (I now remember). I'll let you know how it goes!

And if what TI said doesn't work, alcohol usually does. ;)

If that doesn't work, I'm all for margaritas.
