A strange "problem"

So this is my problem: I'm not devoting as much time to my writing as I am prepared to (and as I have in previous semesters), but it's still getting done. And I don't think it's any worse for the fact that I'm not writing for two hours straight a day. But that doesn't mean I don't feel guilty about it. I am reading a lot, but still... Any thoughts? I think you're probably at a point where the two hours at a stretch did what it was supposed to--help you get into "writing mode" swiftly and directly. You're evolving. As long as you're writing and getting your stuff done, it doesn't have to be by a clock or a schedule.

Thanks Erin. I think part of the "problem" is also the question of, how to allow myself to relax and enjoy my time off if I'm not 100% sure I'm putting in all the time I can/should/need to??? Any comments on that are most welcome.

Hey Bug,

I'm glad I gave you something to think about. You returned the favor with your revision post! So, thank you.

And thank you for stopping by.

I think you can always put in MORE time, but the question is, are you putting in *quality* time. If you are progressing and moving forward on a regular basis, maybe devoting a larger chunk of time to writing on a semi-regular basis would help you with the "guilt" aspect (ie--taking 1-2 afternoons a month to work for a longer stretch) It'll keep your batteries fresher.

I strongly believe that what you are doing when you are not writing is greatly benefiting your writing as long as your mind remains open!
Hope you are enjoying your summer days.

Reading is always a good thing..

I've heard writers say that short bursts have their place - and I've heard a writer say she welcomes interruptions as she tends to make them part of what she's writing at the time - a little bit of happenstance or serendipity coming into play ...

I've been in the same boat! I'm reading a lot more and spending less time writing. Some of it has to do with this third semester craft essay, the rest has to do with life's practicalities that are bogging down my mind. But when I do finally sit down to write, it's not quite as much of a struggle to get my mind going. A strange "problem" indeed.

getting as much and as good done in less time doesn't sound like a problem. Guilt? Now THAT'S a problem. Give yourself a break, Bug!
